Sharon is a hospice nurse. She works for home care night shift on the weekends doing home visits as needed to assist patients and families with patient symptom care needs . She also does death calls after hours as needed to pronounce patients and provide emotional support to their families. She rides around tirelessly from one call to the next providing compassionate care to those in need. She advocates for patients and does whatever it takes to get patients where they need to be through effective communication. She uses HCHB to provide valuable patient information to on call providers as well as to the accepting unit when transferring patients after hours. HCHB also is used to enter patient orders received and transfer patient location as well as chart death notes.

What does being a Gold Standard Award honoree mean to you?

It means a recognition of the hard work that’s been accomplished in my years at hospice

What is a valuable lesson you’ve learned from working in your field?

I’ve learned to be compassionate, thorough, and passionate about my role as a hospice nurse

What advice would you give?

Find the passion in what you do love your job and you’ll never work a day in your life
