What does being a Gold Standard Award honoree mean to you?

I’m incredibly grateful to be recognized with this award. It means so much to know that my hard work and dedication—to our patients, their families, and our amazing Mercy Hospice team—are seen and appreciated. This recognition inspires me to continue growing, both within our team and personally, so I can provide the best care possible. It’s a reminder that there are no limits to what we can achieve, and it motivates me to set new goals for myself. I’m committed to being the best I can be—for my coworkers, our patients, their families, and of course, my own family. Thank you for this honor!

What is a valuable lesson you’ve learned from working in your field?

I’ve learned—and continue to learn—the importance of meeting people where they are. Every patient and every situation is unique. What works for one person may not work for another, and that’s okay. One of the most valuable things we can do is truly listen to our patients and their families—not just hear them, but really understand them. That kind of connection is what makes compassionate, personalized care possible.

What guidance or words of wisdom would you share with those who want to follow a similar path to yours?

Listen to your patients and their families. Offer support. Stay calm during difficult moments. Understand the many faces of grief. Begin each day as a fresh start—let yesterday go. Strive to be the best version of yourself. Be open to constructive feedback. Be willing to learn. And always, always offer a helping hand.
